Interview with Sakina Mohsin

Molén * Who is Sakina Mohsin?

Designer SAKINA MOHSIN – A business graduate from Mumbai. With a basic background in designing since childhood, she has a gifted flair for turning simple fabrics into beautiful and stylish outfits. She uses intricate patterns and graceful silhouettes to drape the modern Arab women with a blend of ethnic Indian craftsmanship to give a contemporary touch.

Molén* Who inspires you?

My inspiration comes from Indian and Middle Eastern art and designs. I'm also greatly inspired by the famous designers Matthew Williamson from the West and Manish Malhotra from the East.

* How do you put your chosen colors together?

My designs are a play of different kinds of fabric put together to enhance the cuts and silhouettes. A monochromatic colour scheme is broken by blending a contrast of another fabric to make an interesting silhouette for the design. Shaded colour fabric is used to create variety in the drape and pattern.

* When you design something, what goes through your mind?

Wearability and sensuality of the design.

* What is the name of your collection?

Ajmal al Naas - Beautiful People

* Which fabrics and colors you use?

Soft free flowing fabrics like Chiffones and silks , blended with Dantelle or Tulle and Velvets. Colours depending upon the season. Bright and bold colours for Occassions and events , subtle and soft colours for simple daily family get-togethers.

* How do you intend women to feel when wearing your designs?

To feel comfortable which is the utmost priority , only if one is comfortable can she feel confident to flaunt her style statement.

* What do you have to say the next generation, particularly for those hoping to follow in your footsteps?

'Use every failure as a stepping stone towards success' only dedication and hardwork can lead to your desired goal in life.

* Where we can find your designs?

Currently retailing from my store in the UAE.
